The winding road of the quest to make art has taken me on a journey,
along hedgerows filled with berries and hidden pheasants;
down musky, meandering river bottoms;
across prairies of towering grasses and rainbows of wildflowers;
within woods silenced by winter;
and into the deep wilderness of myself.
Conversations there with crows, stones, plants, and bones inform which objects to pluck and immortalize,
while intuition guides my hand.
What I draw has asked to be drawn,
has told the story it wishes me to share.
In reverence to the natural and humble, I put pencil to paper.
Graphite is a stone of personal freedom,
it stimulates thought, and is used in healing activities to enhance the energy transfer from the healer.
It is my intention to make each mark like a meditation along a strand of prayer beads,
in the hopes that the energy created will cause transmutation to take place
as a form of healing in the natural world,
the very places my subjects come from.
I feel an alchemical process takes place between the energy of my spirit,
the spirit of the graphite,
the spirit of the object as subject,
and finally, the spirit of the viewer.
Through this process, the healing energy grows, becoming even more powerful.
I believe this is not only the purpose of my art, but of my life.
